Founded by the monk Shobo (Rigen Daishi) in 874, Daigo-ji lies just outside Kyoto and the mountain-top Kami Daigoji is the 11th stop on the Saigoku Kannon pilgrimage.

It takes about 45 minutes to walk from Shimo Daigo-ji (the lower level) up to Kami Daigo-ji. Unfortunately, the Junteido Hall burnt down in August, 2008.
