Itsukushima Shrine, Kyoto

A shrine dedicated to Taira Kiyomori's mother, Lady Gion, stands in Kyoto's Imperial Palace grounds. Kiyomori was the central figure in the classic The Tale of the Heike. Overlooking a small pond, the shrine boasts one of Kyoto's three stone torii.
