Fushimi, Kyoto

Fushimi is a centre of sake production, south of Kyoto. The Teradaya Inn, where rebel samurai Sakamoto Ryoma was ambushed in 1866, still functions as a museum by day and a ryokan at night.

Not far from Fushimi town is the Fushimi-inari shrine, mentioned in The Confessions of Lady Nijo.
